01 Investor thesis
Video calls, cameras, even trained eyes see the movement. SOMA sees which muscles did it.
SOMA is a soft, privacy-first, camera-free forearm band, with Somi, your personal Physical AI, that checks every rep of hand practice at home after stroke. EIT reads which muscles did the rep, an IMU reads the movement, so families, OTs and private clinics finally see what happens between visits. Clinics lease the bands now. Families keep Somi after discharge next. With consent, every rep also builds a hand model robot makers will license later.
02 Problem
Unchecked home practice does no better than no practice.
Arm and hand practice alone at home, chronic stroke. Wong et al. 2020, 15 trials.
“I do physio for Mum every day. She doesn't seem any better.”
A daughter caring for her mother, one month home after a sudden one-sided paralysis (translated from Thai). Pantip, 2019.
“…you don't know if you're improving or not.”
A stroke survivor, 59, on practising at home. Neibling et al. 2023, Disability and Rehabilitation.
“…we only see people once or twice a week so we have no clue what they're doing the other five days.”
A stroke rehab clinician, focus group. Simpson et al. 2021, Journal of NeuroEngineering and Rehabilitation.
“Quite expensive… we go once or twice a month.”
A stroke survivor paying a private clinic (translated from Thai). Pantip, 2015.
03 Why now
Robots need hands. Care is moving home.
- Robots lack hand data.“The forearm and hand are more difficult than the entire rest of the robot.” Elon Musk, Tesla Q3 2025 earnings call. “…we can make a gigantic progress whenever we have access to data.” Wojciech Zaremba, OpenAI co-founder, Gradient Dissent podcast, 2021.
- Care is moving home, with digital follow-up.Thailand's intermediate-care protocol for stroke lets telehealth follow-up count toward its monthly home follow-up (Ministry of Public Health KPI template, 2024).
- Muscle-sensing wristbands have reached consumers.Meta shipped its Neural Band in 2025. Wearable muscle sensing is no longer a lab idea, and a stroke-hand rehab use is still open.
04 Why us
Four things together. To our knowledge, nobody else has them.
- EIT and an IMU in a soft forearm band.Which muscle groups did each rep, plus the movement itself. Privacy-first and camera-free.
- Tasks taught by OTs.The OT teaches Somi a real task in 2 minutes. Somi counts good reps, cues the next right one, and fades its cues.
- A family and clinic loop. Each week, LINE shows if it is working. The OT inbox shows who needs you today. The rehab doctor gets a one-page summary.
- Consented hand data.Every consented rep pairs motion and muscle, the hand data robots lack.
05 Wedge and expansion
14.4M
stroke survivors live in our first 8 Asian markets.
GBD 2019.
- Wedge: the hand after stroke.Private rehab clinics in Bangkok, through rehab doctors.
- Then Thailand. Then Asia. The same band and Somi, then families and robot makers.
06 Business model
Now, B2B2C
Clinics lease bands, prescribe them, and earn monthly.
Next, B2C
Families keep Somi after discharge, paid monthly.
Later, B2B licence
Robot makers license the consented motion and muscle hand model.

08 What we are validating next
What we still have to prove, and how.
Study 1
Stroke-hand accuracy.
Can SOMA tell a fingertip pinch from a wrist-led grip in people with stroke, checked against an OT watching the same rep?
Trial 2
Home donning.
Can a family member put the band on at home, quickly and reliably, with a weak or stiff hand?
Pilots 3
Clinic pilots.
Private clinics in Bangkok, with rehab doctors and OTs. Do patients practise more, and stay in care?
Until these are done, SOMA is a prototype in validation and not a medical device.
